About Doodlebug Blessings Goldendoodles & Fleece Tied Blankets and more!

Our five children still at home, Christmas 2013

We are proud parents of 8 blessings, all adopted, 5 still at home, 2 on their own, and an angel in heaven, due to childhood cancer.  Most of our children have or had special needs.  We've lost count of how many surgeries our children have had over the years.  Special needs include, severe allergies and asthma, ADHD, OCD, Tessier Cleft Lip & Palate, F.A.E, Brain Cancer, Umbilical hernia, Visual impairment, Club foot, Mild Cerebral Palsy, PTSD and Anxiety. They are all blessings in our lives and have made us better people.  Steve works full time and also part time, so that I can be home with our children, as much as possible. Steve is a board certified psychiatric pharmacist and he sits on several boards. Kim worked in adoption for 13 years, helping others adopt, mostly internationally. We have adopted domestically and internationally and we have provided foster care and also hosted a child here on a medical visa for 10 months and ended up covering over 10K in medical bills for that child.  Adoption changed our lives forever, as has losing a child to cancer.  We are passionate about adoption and about raising awareness to Childhood Cancer & we believe in giving back whenever possible.

Kim began making fleece tied blankets for families adopting and adding the child's name and DOB, about 11 years ago. She also sent around 30 to troops in Iraq, when our oldest son was stationed there for over a year with the USMC.  She has continued to make blankets for loved ones, friends, cancer patients, and to sell.  We also have Asian Dolls for sale, as they are hard to find & we are always on the lookout for them, as we have adopted 5 daughters from China & most little girls want a doll that looks just like they do!  You will find the dolls we currently have on the Everything Asian page, along with a few books & other misc. items from time to time.

She usually make the blankets with a print on one side and a solid on the reverse, but a few have a print on both sides; many can be made to your specifications.  She makes most of them a yard and 1/2 long on each side, so they are a perfect size for children as well as adults.  She can make them larger, by request, they will be extra and cost will depend on the size.  We have all branches of the military, except the Air Force, but we do have some generic military fleece, that works for anyone in the service and we have several prints, and coordinating prints for the back, as well as solids, stars and stripes etc.  All of our children have at least one, if not three or four, of their own and we all use them year round.  Our kids all drag them around the house, even our teenagers.  They even steal ours from time to time.

We have several different Panda & Ladybug prints for families with Children from China, or those that love Pandas and or Ladybugs!  We also have multi-national flag prints, stars-n-stripes, just stars, & a Guatemala flag, fleece blanket, perfect for children adopted from Guatemala.  We have one Taiwan flag blanket and one Bulgaria flag blanket.

If you have an idea of something you might want, that isn't on the site, just let us know and we might just have it, or be able to find it, as we are willing to take custom orders on a case-by-case basis. A first name can be added to one side, for $8 extra. See examples at the bottom of this page.  Keep checking back -- We add more pictures of prints and solids all the time.

We raised two litters of Basenji puppies in 1997 & 1998 when our three oldest children were young.  We also finished Championships on a few of our Basenjis and were involved in field trials and obedience.  We had to retire from showing and raising puppies, in order to raise our children and also because we felt God calling us to help raise awareness for adoption of orphans around the world and to help other families adopt and to know what a blessing adoption can be.  Kim worked in adoption, mostly international, for 13 years.  Our family has been blessed tremendously by the adoption of our own 8 children, but also by witnessing the transformation of many children during that time and by the friendships we have made along the way. We also hosted a child here on a medical  visa for 10 months and have been foster parents.  We still advocate for waiting children, but are no longer working in adoption and have a mission called Orphan's Hope, to raise awareness to the plight of orphan's. Our hearts and lives are changed forever and our Faith is deeper than ever before, because of the miracle of adoption.

We wanted a more allergy friendly dog and thus were led to the Doodle and fell head over heals in love with Goldendoodles!  We love our Golden Retriever Toby, but we do not love the shedding.  Oh how we wished we would have had a doodle when our oldest son was young, as he was allergic to nearly every dog he was around, but the Basenji.  He loved dogs and all animals really, and that is why we got involved with raising and showing the Basenji and we noticed what better dogs they were when raised with children and in a home environment and not in a kennel, which made us want to start raising goldendoodles for other families to fall in love with.  Our children are very involved with raising our puppies, they help with feeding, socializing, bathing and even with clean up.  It is a family effort and we all usually have a favorite one that we will carry around, play with and give extra love to, so they all get lots of individual attention and love. Some have even been dressed up, wrapped in blankets like dolls and read to by our daughters.
We do all things through Christ, who strengthens and guides us.
